One call. Covered.
MKS Freight Agency is an independent agency for Mercer Transportation, based in Wichita, Kansas. Full truckloads on dry van, flatbed and step deck anywhere in the lower 48, moved on Mercer's owner-operator fleet or through Mercer's brokerage department.
For shippers big brokers take for granted
I work with manufacturers, fabricators and distributors that ship steady van or flatbed freight, including those moving just a few loads a week. To a large broker you're just a small account. Here you're one of a select group of shippers I know by name.
You get access to Mercer's fleet of over 1,500 owner-operator trucks: dry vans, flatbeds and step decks.
I learn your products, systems and preferences, so you're not re-explaining your freight to someone new every time you need a truck.
Need a more comprehensive program? I bring Mercer Transportation's full resources to it, with me as your single point of contact.
Mercer Total Services, Mercer's logistics division, can run your whole shipping program: pricing requests and bids, coverage on Mercer trucks or other qualified carriers, and reporting on your numbers.

Who hauls your freight matters
Since a 2026 Supreme Court ruling, the companies that arrange freight can be sued over the carriers they choose, and shippers get named in those lawsuits too. We're not the cheapest trucks you can find. We're the ones that show up and do the job right.
Cheap trucks are expensive liabilities
Here's what you're paying for:
- Carriers held to federal safety and English proficiency rules
- Proper insurance
- Maintained trucks and trailers
- Pickups and deliveries made on time
What moves the price
Brings it down: be a shipper of choice
Drivers talk. Docks that treat them well get trucks first.
- Give as much notice as you can
- Allow a flexible pickup window
- Have freight ready when the truck arrives
- Load and unload quickly
- Respect drivers and their hours on the clock
- Pay fair detention when delays happen
Pushes it up
- Same-day or next-day pickup
- No flexibility on pickup times
- Long waits to load or unload
- Deliveries where little freight comes back out
- Tarping or special handling

About me
I'm Phil Hill, and I've been in freight for more than ten years. I started as a dispatcher, worked my way up to running the MKS office, and still handle every load myself. My father drove a truck, so I know what it takes to get a load delivered and what the driver deals with along the way.
Questions shippers ask
Who is MKS Freight Agency?
MKS Freight Agency is my agency in Wichita, Kansas, and I'm an independent agent for Mercer Transportation. MKS is the office code Mercer and its drivers know me by. Reach me direct at 316-448-0579, or through Mercer's main line at 1-800-626-5375.
Who will I deal with day to day?
Me. I quote your loads, book the trucks, track them and handle any problems, so you never get passed around a call center.
Are you a carrier or a broker?
Both. Mercer Transportation is an asset carrier with an owner-operator fleet. When no Mercer truck is available, I can arrange a qualified carrier vetted and approved by Mercer's brokerage department.
How do I know my freight won't be double brokered?
Loads go to Mercer owner-operators or to carriers approved by Mercer's brokerage department, never handed off to someone unknown. Before pickup I send you the truck number and the driver's name and phone number, so your dock knows exactly who is coming.
Can I be held liable for the carrier that hauls my freight?
It depends on the state and the facts, so check with your attorney. In May 2026 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the companies that arrange freight can be sued over the carriers they choose, and shippers are sometimes named in the same lawsuits. Your best protection is a carrier that is properly insured, maintains its equipment and uses qualified drivers. Mercer screens its owner-operators and the outside carriers its brokerage department approves, checking operating authority, insurance and safety records before they haul.
Will there be extra charges?
No surprise charges. If you give me the full details of the load, the rate I quote is the rate you pay. The exception is a delay caused at your dock or your receiver's, and we can agree on standard rates for that up front. If something comes up that wasn't disclosed about your load, we talk about it before anything is billed.
Do you only ship out of Kansas?
No. My office is in Wichita, but Mercer trucks run in all 48 contiguous states and I quote lanes anywhere in them.
How much notice do you need?
I work with any amount of notice.
Can you move oversize or overweight loads?
Yes. Oversize and overweight loads are quoted one at a time, because each needs permits and a planned route. Send me the dimensions and weight.
Do I need an account before my first load?
Yes. Once we agree I'm the right fit for your freight, I'll send you Mercer's customer setup link. You can enter your information there or upload your credit packet.
What happens if my freight is damaged?
Contact me and I'll have Mercer's claims department reach out to you. If we learn about damage first, the claims department will contact you.
What cargo insurance covers my freight?
Mercer's standard cargo liability is $125,000 per load. For higher-value freight, send me the commodity and its value, and I'll quote additional coverage for the shipment. Loads valued over $250,000 move only on Mercer's own trucks, never on outside carriers.
